Men’s Style Q+A

I have an important “black-tie” event coming up. What should I wear?
Break out the penguin suit, guys, because “black tie” means only one thing: a tuxedo. It calls for a formal white shirt with a pleated bib or plain front secured by cufflinks and matching studs, along with a “real” black bowtie. For the tuxedo jacket, chose from three lapel designs: shawl (trendy), notch (standard) or peak (classic) depending on your style. Be sure to match your ensemble with a pair of shiny black leather shoes. Excellent choices for optional accessories: braces to hold up your pants, a vest to differentiate you from the masses, and a sharp dress watch so you’re always on time. Unleash your inner Bond.
What simple things can I do to dress in a more current style without looking too trendy?
I have found the better you dress, behave, and carry yourself, the more fortune – and the eyes of women – will smile upon you. So here are a few things to add to your wardrobe in order to update your look this season and have all eyes on you. Buy a pair of dark denims in a straight or boot cut fit, as well as a classic, comfortable Henley, a V-neck cardigan, and a plaid shirt. Stick with dark colors: black, grey, and midnight blue. Add a stylish accessory – Fedora, newsboy, or kangol caps are great statement pieces – along with a chunky scarf, the must-have accessory for Fall. Finally, add a great pair of utilitarian boots and you are ready for action.
I’m recently divorced and haven’t dated in years. Any pointers on etiquette and what to wear?
Jumping back into the dating world after a divorce can feel a bit daunting but it doesn’t have to be difficult. One of the most important tips is to leave your divorce in the past. Just acknowledging you are divorced is enough. Giving yourself a bit of attention is necessary. To attract a woman, update your wardrobe and make a trip to the barber shop. Simple basics such as a pair of dark denims, a crisp white shirt, and a fresh hairstyle can do wonders for a man’s confidence. A well-put-together presentation gives off the aura you take pride in yourself and will instantly attract women. Chivalry is not dead. Although women are fiercely independent, they still love a man who pampers them and shows them special attention.
I have a lot of chest hair. What should I do as far as grooming?
While most women like a little hair on a man’s chest, almost all are turned off by guys who appear to be wearing a hair suit. The contrast between smooth and wooly seems to make it interesting for the ladies. Getting the hair right can be a real challenge for men. Basically, keep it simple and natural and let it grow where it grows, but keep it clean and trimmed. Unruly chest hair is right down there with nose hair, unibrows, and ear trees. If you shave the hair completely, remember to have it removed regularly as the bristly stubble can cause discomfort for you and your lady. Waxing or laser hair removal are options. However, due to the pain level, these are not very popular. Just remember, a guy can be hot with without hair – it’s really up to him.
I have some stubborn fat on my belly. How can I dress to minimize it?
Men naturally assume all they have to do is wear something big and baggy to hide a protruding belly. However, this approach rarely works and unfortunately, usually makes a guy appear bigger than he actually is. So, here are a few tips. First, pick lightweight fabrics – avoid tweeds. Choose dark colors in a similar tone for both top and bottom. Vertical stripes add some height, drawing the eye downward, and slenderizing your frame. However, tight-fitting clothes accentuate the flabby bulges. Always skim the body. Wear pants on the natural waist. Do not wear them below the gut, which only draws attention to your midsection. Guys, stop wearing tents, start showing off your assets, and look slimmer.
